3 Free Health Fairs Next Week

If you or someone you know are looking for free health services or help in enrolling in health insurance we want to let you know about three free health fairs next week, the Seattle Central Health Fair on Thursday March 6th from 11 to 330 at Seattle Central Community College, the Seattle Children's annual Health Fair Saturday march 8th from 10 to 2 at Seattle Children’s Hospital, and the Seattle & King County Community Health & Safety Fair 2014 Saturday March 8th from 11 to 3 at International District Community Center .

Need a little encouragement to get your life on a healthy track? Seattle Central’s Health Fair can provide that support. Dozens of health care providers will be available on March 6, to give free advice, referrals and even free massages. The Health Fair will be held in two locations with slightly different hours. The Women’s Health and Resources Fair will line the main hallway of the Broadway Edison building, 1701 Broadway, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Representatives from the Seattle Milk Fund, Seattle-King County Public Health, Seattle Indian Health Board, Center for Multicultural Health and Child Care Resources of King County will be available to explain resources available to women and families. The Swedish Mammography Mobile will offer free exams to qualified women from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. and will park their vehicle on Broadway, between the main building and the Mitchell Activity Center. The Health and Well-being part of the Fair will be held in the Mitchell Activity Center, 1718 Broadway, from 11 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. One of the vendors – the NeighborCare-Health Outreach group – will assist in signing up for insurance under the Affordable Care Act. Other vendors scheduled to attend include: Gay City Health Project-rapid HIV testing, Street Yoga, Hope Heart, Leisa Chocolates, Kind Healthy Snacks, MAC Masseur, Puget Sound Blood Bank, Underdog Sports, and Seattle Central’s Sustainability Committee and Sport Commission. Seattle Children's annual Health Fair is a free, hands-on community event. With games, hands-on activities, contests, crafts and music, they will answer kids' and families' questions about their health, safety and bodies. Bring your favorite stuffed animal or doll for a check-up at the Teddy Bear Clinic, explore inside an ambulance, learn about heart health and healthy eating, run an obstacle course and try out their world-class da Vinci surgical robot. Activities are especially fit for children ages 3 to 8, but your entire family is welcome. This Health Fair presented by Seattle Children’s Hospital. Multiple languages interpreters are available to serve you better in: Mandarin and Cantonese; Cambodian, Vietnamese. DIRECTV is currently seeking Satellite Installation Technicians to join its Washington team. The Northeast Branch of the Seattle Public Library will be holding a workshop series on resume writing geared toward teens and young adults.  This event is titled Get a Job! The Homeless Intervention Project (HIP) is an employment and job-training program that helps homeless individuals find and maintain full-time employment through job counseling, case management, and paid training. The Zine Project hires homeless youth ages 15 to 22 to work, learn, and write for eight weeks, Monday-Friday for 16 to 18 hours a week. Their efforts culminate in the creation of mini-magazines called Zines. An Employment Case Manager works with each youth to learn and foster essential skills for obtaining and maintaining employment. Free Job Training Program in Medical Office Occupations at SSCC

If you or someone you know are looking for free job training, I want to let you know about FREE short-term job training program in Medical Office Occupations at South Seattle Community College.

This is a 19 week intensive introduction for entry-level employment in Medical Business Information Technology/Office Administration. The last 6 weeks of the program is a built in Externship within the medical field.

Prerequisites are strong and up-to-date keyboarding and computer skills and a desire to learn and work harmoniously with others in a medical setting.  If you do not already possess these skills, you will be entered into a one quarter First Step class (19 college credits) to help you to get your MS Word and Excel skills to where they need to be successful in the MBIT program. The classes are Mon - Thurs from 9:00am – 4:30pm and Fri 9am-2:30pm and are scheduled to begin April 2014.

If you are receiving Basic Food and do not possess a AA or BA degree you can get additional supports though the YWCA for case management, transportation and job placement assistance upon completion of the program and Kristi can meet with you one-on-one to complete the enrollment paperwork.

Some of the careers that this program prepares you for are Entry level Billing and Coding Specialist, Patient Registrar, Patient Services Specialist/Representative, Administrative Specialist, Ambulatory Floats, Teleservices, Patient Care Representative, Health Information Services, Medical Front Office Associate, Claims Representative, Client Services Representative, Unit Assistant/Data Entry, Patient Account Representative, Telecomm Operator and Insurance Customer Services Representative.

Sweet Deals Day Community Resource Fair Saturday 2/8

We want to let you know about Sweet Deals Day, a free Community Resource Fair this Saturday the 8th from 10 to 2 at the Pearl Warren Building in Beacon Hill, Seattle.

At Sweet Deals Day, there will be free signups for IRS tax preparation, affordable health care, food stamps, SSI, senior services, bank accounts, credit report review, low income energy assistance, and FAFSA. There will be workshops and booths on early childhood education, breastfeeding and prenatal care, immunization, bank on washington, senior services, family support, legal service, LIHEAP, budgeting on SNAP and more. Over twenty-five community resources will be available to families! ConnectUp and Community Voice Mail will have a table and a workshop. There will be free food, raffles, kids activities, and more. Free lunch will be provided for all.  The event is brought to you by the Northwest Native Asset Building Coalition in partnership with United Way of King County, and community partners.
