Youth Community Resource Exchange

United Way and New Horizons Ministries are partnering to present the Youth Community Resource Exchange on Thursday, January 28. This event is dedicated to connecting youth and young adults ages 12 to 26 to the resources and services that they need while experiencing homelessness. 

Attendees of the Youth Community Resource Exchange will receive a meal and a care package as well as access to free dental and eye care, haircuts, resources to get a job or education as well as loads of fun stuff. The event will be held on January 28 from 4-7pm at New Horizons Ministries, 2709 3rd Ave in Seattle. For more information, call 206.461.5096 or email mridgeway@uwkc.org.

Day of Dignity

The Muslim Association of the Northwest and Islamic Relief USA present their annual Day of Dignity this Saturday, November 21. This event is an opportunity for people who are experiencing homelessness to get needed supplies as well as a place for compassionate listening and human connection. 

This event will serve the first 300 people to line up at Millionair Club Charity, 2515 Western Ave in Seattle. Participants will receive a new sleeping bag, hygiene kits, and a warm meal. Massage therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic care, haircuts and resource referral will also be available. Please be prepared to wait outside for these services as only 20 people can be served at a time. Doors open at 9:30am and tickets are distributed on a first come, first served basis.

Free Medical and Dental Clinic 10/8/15

The Seattle Center Foundation is hosting a free clinic October 22 to 25. This clinic is totally free and open to the public. There is no advanced registration for this event. Everything is done on a first come, first served basis with line-up starting at 12:30am on the day of the clinic. Ticket distribution starts at 5am for the day. It will be a very long for patients but everyone will have the opportunity to get either dental or vision care in addition to medical. You can come back a second day to receive additional care but you have to start the waiting process again.

Flu Vaccine 10/1/15

This year’s flu vaccine is now available. Doctors recommend that all people over the age of 6 months old get a vaccine. Influenza or the flu is a disease that primarily affects the airway and lungs. It can lead to pneumonia or other serious complications, particularly for pregnant women, children under the age of 2, people with chronic illnesses like asthma or diabetes and people with compromised immune systems. If you live with or care for someone that is in any of these categories, it is important for you to get a flu shot as well.

The composition of the flu shot changes each year because different variations of the virus are present. You must get vaccinated every year to stay protected. Most insurance plans, including Medicaid and Medicare, cover flu vaccines. If you do not have insurance, contact the Community Health Access program at 1-800-756-5437. This is a free, confidential program that provides information about many different health services in King County. This service will help you find a low cost flu shot near you.

Flu shots are available at most pharmacies and doctors’ offices. It takes about two weeks for your body to develop resistance to the flu after getting the shot so it’s important to get it as soon as possible. Talk to your healthcare provider for more information about influenza and this vaccine.

Free Dental Sealant Day 3/14/15

This message is about a free dental sealant event for children and teens on March 14^th.

The Greater Seattle Dental Hygienists’ Society is sponsoring a Free Dental Sealant Day for children and teens ages 4 through 18.

They will provide:

• Dental exams by dentists
• Dental sealants – a hard plastic-like coating painted on the chewing surface of the back teeth to prevent cavities. The process is quick and painless.
• Fluoride treatments

At Shoreline Community College, at the Dental Hygiene Clinic 2500 Bldg, 16101 Greenwood Ave. North, Shoreline, 98133, on Saturday, March 14th, from 9:00am to 3:00pm.

If so, the Mobile Medical Program is for you! It provides

Walk-in care for most medical problems including:Screening for diabetes and high blood pressure

Help with:
-DSHS and other benefits applications
-Mental Health Care
-Connecting to other services
-Dental Care
-Shelter / Housing
-Food
-Domestic Violence
-Establishing a regular medical provider

The Mobile Medical Program holds clinics at community meal programs in Auburn, Bellevue, Burien, Federal Way, Kent, Renton, and Tukwila.

Please Note: This program provides no-cost walk-in care for people who are living homeless (or were recently homeless) only. Please try to arrive at least one hour before the scheduled end time for the clinic. On rare occasions the clinic will close earlier than the scheduled time.  Please call the Mobile Van phone (206-330-6775) if you would like to confirm the shift end time for a particular day.

Uninsured? The Mobile Medical staff can help you apply for a new Medicaid program available to people with a low income. The program covers prescriptions, doctor and hospital visits, basic dental and vision care, and more. There are no co-pays and you do not need to be disabled.
