The First Step Program is a free job training Introduction to Computers and Office Occupations at South Seattle College. This course is for those who wish to prepare for an office environment and improve computer and basic skills for returning to work, or want to build a solid foundation for future training or college courses. Students will earn 21 college credits and a certificate in Business Information Technology. Course includes: Keyboarding, Data Entry, Microsoft Office, Business English, Study/Success Skills, Diversity in Business, Business Math, Customer Relations and Career Development. The schedule is Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Friday 9:00 a.m. – 2:30pm. Students who meet eligibility requirements will be provided with transportation support throughout training as well as job placement assistance upon completion. The Medical Office Professional Program through South Seattle College is a 2 quarter full-time intensive introduction to the personal and technical skills required for entry to mid-level employment in Medical Office Administration.  Students receiving basic food and/or unemployment benefits will receive 100% funding for tuition and books and additional supports to cover transportation costs and job placement. Additional training opportunities are offered for students to work towards becoming certified in Intermediate and Advanced Coding. There is a Full-time Internship within 2nd quarter of program. Classes are Mon-Thurs 9am-4:30pm. Winter Quarter classes are scheduled to begin January 7th 2015. Students can register for South's Start Next Quarter Orientation at startnextquarter.org or attend the Mandatory Orientation on Tuesday December 30th from 10am-Noon if they miss the last orientation.
