Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program

If you or someone you know are a senior, I want to let you know about the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program which provides low-income seniors with $40 in voucher checks that can be exchanged for fresh produce at farmers markets, roadside stands, and community-supported agriculture programs throughout King County.

Applicants for the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program must be King County residents age 60 or older (age 55 or older if American Indian/Alaska Native) and low-income—below 185 percent of Federal Poverty Level. In real terms, that means someone who meets the age requirement must have an income of less than $1,771 monthly if they live alone or less than $2,391 per month if they live with one other person. For larger households, add $620 per month per person.

Here is the application form. Applications in languages other than English are available on the SFMNP website. You may also call the following organizations for more information or an application:

Because funds are limited, a random selection process is used to select recipients. Completed applications must be submitted by mail and postmarked by May 31st, 2012. All applicants will receive a letter in early July informing them of their status. If your name is selected, you will receive your checks by mail by July 5, 2013. Good luck!
